Ukraine’s 2023/24 Grain Exports Reach 40.3 Million Tons as of Late April

According to data from the Ukrainian agriculture ministry, the country’s grain exports in the 2023/24 July-June marketing season have reached almost 40.3 million metric tons as of April 26. This is compared to 41.1 million tons exported during the same period a year earlier.

The exports this season have included 15.4 million tons of wheat, 22.2 million tons of corn, and 2.2 million tons of barley. So far in April, Ukraine has exported 5.2 million tons of grain.

An industry source stated that Ukrainian grain exports could total 6-7 million tons in April, despite Russian attacks on the country’s port infrastructure in the Black Sea. Ukraine typically sends around 95% of its grain exports through these Black Sea ports.

The Ukrainian government expects a total harvest of 81.3 million tons of grain and oilseeds in 2023, with an exportable surplus of about 50 million tons. However, the ministry has also said the 2024 combined grain and oilseed crop could fall to 74 million tons, including 52.4 million tons of grain.

This data reflects Ukraine’s continued efforts to maintain its grain exports in the face of the ongoing conflict with Russia. Despite the challenges posed by infrastructure attacks and logistical constraints, Ukraine remains a significant global producer and exporter of key agricultural commodities.
