A Ukrainian delegation will soon travel to Washington to negotiate a revised minerals agreement with the United States, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced Friday. The discussions follow the Trump administration’s updated proposal, which expands the scope of the original deal aimed at securing strategic mineral supplies.
The initial agreement, left unsigned after a tense February meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, is now being reworked. Kyiv received the new draft last week and is reviewing its terms to ensure alignment with Ukraine’s economic interests and EU accession goals, Sybiha said during a visit to Brussels.
Key Details:
Revised Deal: The US has proposed a broader minerals framework, though specifics remain undisclosed.
Balancing Act: Ukraine seeks a mutually beneficial pact that doesn’t hinder its EU integration efforts.
Virtual Talks: Preliminary discussions between US and Ukrainian officials were expected as early as Friday.
Sybiha emphasized that Kyiv remains cautious, ensuring the agreement strengthens economic ties without compromising sovereignty. The upcoming in-person talks in Washington will focus on finalizing terms amid growing global competition for critical minerals.
