Malaysia Launches Anti-Dumping Investigation on Iron and Steel Imports

Malaysia’s trade ministry has initiated an anti-dumping duty investigation concerning imports of flat-rolled products made from iron or non-alloy steel from China, India, Japan, and South Korea. This decision comes in response to a petition filed by a domestic producer, received on July 15.

The petitioner claims that these flat-rolled products, which are 600 millimeters or wider and may be clad, plated, or coated with tin, are being sold at prices significantly lower than those in the domestic market. The complaint further alleges that the volume of dumped imports from the four countries has risen, causing material injury to Malaysia’s domestic steel industry.

The ministry has indicated that a preliminary finding from the investigation is expected within 120 days of its commencement, although the exact start date was not specified. If the investigation substantiates the claims, a provisional anti-dumping duty will be imposed at a rate sufficient to mitigate further harm to the domestic industry.
