Rains Bring Relief to Wheat in Eastern Argentina, Grains Exchange Says

Recent rainfall in eastern Argentina has provided much-needed relief to wheat-growing areas, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BdeC). In its weekly crop report, the exchange noted that varying intensities of rain improved crop conditions, which are now rated between normal and good. However, the western regions continue to suffer from worsening drought and cold temperatures.

For the 2024/25 season, approximately 6.3 million hectares have been planted with wheat in Argentina, a significant global exporter of the grain. Despite the positive impact of the recent rains in the east, areas that did not receive precipitation are experiencing development delays, tissue damage from low temperatures, and increasing signs of water stress.

The BdeC’s agroclimatic report indicated that only very light rains are expected in the eastern agricultural areas in the coming days. Additionally, regarding corn for the 2023/24 season, the exchange reported that the harvest is at 96.3% completion, with an anticipated production of 46.5 million metric tons.
