Moderate Rains Likely to Boost Argentina’s Wheat Crop in Coming Days

The Buenos Aires grain exchange (BdeC) reported that moderate rains forecasted for Argentina’s farming heartland over the next few days are expected to positively impact the 2024/25 wheat crop, which has been affected by dry and cold conditions. Argentina is a significant global wheat exporter, and planting for the current agricultural campaign was completed last week, covering 6.3 million hectares.

The BdeC noted that these rains would benefit crop conditions and allow for the resumption of fertilization work. However, the share of the planted wheat area in fair to poor condition increased by 10 percentage points to 16%, while 53% of the wheat is in normal condition and 31% is rated as excellent to good.

Regarding the 2023/24 corn crop, dry conditions have facilitated a smooth harvesting process, with 92% of the planted area now harvested. The anticipated corn harvest for this season is projected to reach 46.5 million tons.
