Brazil’s Second Corn Harvest 91% Done

As of last Thursday, Brazilian farmers in the key center-south region have completed 91% of their 2024 second corn harvest, according to agribusiness consultancy AgRural. This marks a significant increase from 83% the previous week and is notably higher than the 55% harvested at the same time last year. This is the fastest pace for this period since AgRural began weekly data collection in 2013.

The consultancy reports that harvesting is nearly complete in Mato Grosso, Brazil’s top grain-producing state, and is “well underway” in Goias, Parana, and Mato Grosso do Sul.

The second corn crop in Brazil accounts for approximately 75% of the country’s annual corn production and is typically planted after soybeans are harvested from the same fields. This crop is primarily exported in the latter half of the year, competing with U.S. supplies in global markets.
