Argentina Completes Wheat Planting for 2024/25 Season

Recent rains have enabled Argentine farmers to finish planting wheat for the 2024/25 harvesting season in the country’s agricultural heartland, as reported by the Buenos Aires grains exchange (BdeC). The planting is now 98.5% complete across the 6.3 million hectares dedicated to wheat nationwide.

Argentina, a major global supplier of grains, relies heavily on the sales of crops like wheat, corn, and soybeans for crucial income and foreign currency reserves necessary for debt repayment and imports. The recent rainfall primarily benefited the central and eastern regions, allowing planting to be finalized in both the northern and southern agricultural centers. However, it was noted that southern wheat-planted areas have faced challenges due to recent cold and dry weather.

In addition to wheat, the harvesting of Argentina’s 2023/24 corn crop has progressed rapidly, with nearly 87% of the approximately 7.6 million hectares already harvested. The corn harvest is projected to yield around 46.5 million metric tons.
