According to customs data, China’s imports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products jumped 16% to 240,000 metric tons in June. This represents a significant increase compared to the same period a year earlier.
In the first half of 2023, China’s total aluminium imports reached 2.04 million tons, up 70.1% from the same period in 2022. The data includes both primary metal and unwrought, alloyed aluminium.
Aluminium is a widely used metal in industries such as construction, transportation, and packaging. The surge in imports suggests strong demand for the metal in China.
Additionally, China’s imports of bauxite, a key raw material for aluminium production, also rose 15.4% to 13.33 million tons in June. In the first six months of the year, bauxite imports totaled 77.35 million tons, up 7.4% from the same period a year earlier.
The increase in both aluminium and bauxite imports indicates that China’s aluminium industry is experiencing robust growth, driven by strong domestic demand. This trend is likely to continue as the country’s construction, transportation, and other key sectors continue to expand.
