According to agribusiness consultancy AgRural, Brazilian farmers in the country’s key center-south region had harvested 63% of their second corn crop for the 2024 cycle as of last Thursday. This represents a significant increase from the previous week’s figure of 49%, and is well above the 26% seen a year earlier.
The rapid progress in the second corn harvest is attributed to dry weather and above-average temperatures, which have been favorable for the crop. The states of Mato Grosso and Parana are leading the work in the fields, AgRural said.
Brazil’s second corn crop, which accounts for around 75% of the national production each year, is planted after the soybean harvest on the same fields.
The accelerated pace of the second-corn harvest this year underscores the improved conditions compared to the previous season. This is positive news for Brazil’s overall corn production, which is a crucial component of the country’s agricultural sector and a major export commodity.
