According to European traders, Tunisia’s state grains agency has issued an international tender to purchase an estimated 100,000 metric tons of soft milling wheat. The origin of the wheat is optional, and the deadline for submission of price offers is Thursday, July 4.
The soft wheat is sought in four consignments of 25,000 tonnes, with shipment requested between July 25 and August 30, depending on the origin selected for supply.
The tender is being financed by the World Bank, one of the organizations helping Tunisia in its current difficult financial position. Tunisia is seeking to bolster its wheat supplies amid the country’s economic challenges.
Soft milling wheat is a type of wheat typically used for making bread, pastries, and other baked goods. The tender indicates Tunisia’s need to secure sufficient wheat supplies to meet its domestic consumption and food security requirements.
The international tender process allows Tunisia to source the wheat from various origins, providing flexibility in procurement and potentially securing competitive prices. The World Bank’s involvement in financing the tender suggests the international community’s efforts to support Tunisia during this economically challenging period.
The successful procurement of the 100,000 metric tons of soft milling wheat will help Tunisia address its wheat needs and contribute to the stability of its food supply.
