According to data from the Ukrainian agriculture ministry, the country’s grain exports in the 2023/24 July-June marketing season had reached 47.4 million metric tons by June 5. This is an increase from the 45.6 million tons exported by the same date in 2022.
The ministry’s data shows that this season’s exports included 483,000 tons since the start of June. The overall exports were composed of 17.6 million tons of wheat, 26.9 million tons of corn, and about 2.4 million tons of barley.
Ukraine typically sends around 95% of its grain exports via its Black Sea ports. The Ukrainian government expects a harvest of 81.3 million tons of grain and oilseeds this season, with an exportable surplus of about 50 million tons.
However, the ministry has also stated that the 2024 combined grain and oilseed crop could fall to 74 million tons, including 52.4 million tons of grain. The economy ministry has forecasted the 2024 grain and oilseed crops at 73 million tons.
These figures highlight the continued importance of Ukraine’s agricultural sector and its ability to export significant quantities of grains, despite the ongoing conflict in the region. The ministry’s data provides a snapshot of the country’s export performance so far in the 2023/24 marketing season.
