Jordan’s state grain buyer has issued an international tender seeking to purchase up to 120,000 metric tons of milling wheat from optional origins. The deadline for price offers is June 4.
The new tender announcement comes after Jordan made no purchase in its previous tender for 120,000 tons of wheat on Tuesday.
In the latest tender, the shipment of the hard wheat is sought in a series of possible combinations, with consignments ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 tons. The potential shipment periods are July 1-15, July 16-31, Aug. 1-15, and Aug. 16-31.
Traders note that Jordan has repeatedly rejected offers and made no purchases in wheat tenders held in April and May. This is likely due to the sharp rise in global wheat prices since late April, which has been driven by concerns about weather damage to Russia’s crop.
Wheat prices hit 10-month highs on Tuesday, making it challenging for importers like Jordan to secure supplies at acceptable prices. Jordan, along with other wheat importers, has been suffering from the steep price increases.
The latest tender from Jordan’s state grain buyer underscores the country’s ongoing efforts to secure sufficient wheat supplies to meet its domestic consumption needs. As a major importer of the commodity, Jordan is particularly vulnerable to volatility in the global wheat market.
The outcome of this latest tender will be closely watched, as it could provide insights into the strategies being employed by Jordan and other importing nations to navigate the current conditions in the global wheat trade.
