Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras has appointed Magda Chambriard as its new Chief Executive Officer. The company’s board of directors approved Chambriard’s nomination, and she has already taken office in the position.
Chambriard, a former head of Brazil’s oil and gas regulator ANP, was chosen by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to replace the previous CEO, Jean Paul Prates, who was dismissed last week.
As the incoming CEO, Chambriard, a four-decade industry veteran, has been tasked by President Lula with transforming Petrobras into an engine of job creation and industrial development. She will be looking to revive domestic shipyards, fertilizer plants, refineries, and gas lines, according to sources familiar with the matter.
