According to the country’s copper commission Cochilco, Chile’s copper production surged by 9.8% year-on-year to reach 417,000 metric tons in February. However, despite this overall increase, the output from the state-run Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, experienced a 1.6% decline to 103,700 tons.
The notable rise in February’s production was largely attributed to a substantial 34.1% year-on-year increase from BHP’s flagship Escondida mine, the largest copper mine globally, with production reaching 97,500 tons during the month.
Furthermore, Collahuasi, another significant copper mine in Chile jointly operated by Glencore and Anglo American, observed a 2.5% year-on-year increase in production to 45,200 tons for the month.
