Honduras experienced a 12% increase in coffee exports in March compared to the same period the previous year, as reported by a leading export authority on Monday. Shipments from the largest coffee exporter in Central America surged to 709,782.16 60-kilo bags in March, up from 633,984.23 bags during the corresponding month of the 2022/23 season, according to data from the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE).
Dagoberto Suazo, a member of the IHCAFE board, attributed the rise in exports to sales scheduling and delays in shipments originally planned for February, which were eventually dispatched in March. Suazo noted that such delays are common occurrences within the industry. Despite the boost in March exports, Honduras recorded a cumulative total of 1,936,281.23 60-kilo bags from October to March, representing a 4% decrease compared to the 2,011,059.52 bags exported during the same period in the previous year.
Honduras, renowned for its Arabica coffee exports, anticipates shipping approximately 4,983,333.33 60-kilo bags throughout the 2023/24 season.
