Saudi Arabia Initiates Tender to Purchase 595,000 Metric Tons of Wheat

Saudi Arabia’s state wheat buying agency, the General Food Security Authority (GFSA), has announced a tender to procure 595,000 metric tons of wheat scheduled for arrival in June and July. The tender calls for submissions of price offers by Friday, with results expected on Monday according to European traders.

The GFSA seeks 10 consignments of 12.5% protein wheat from optional origins, with shipments to be distributed across various ports in the country. Specifically, 180,000 tons are designated for Jeddah, Yanbu, and Dammam each, while 55,000 tons are allocated for Jizan. The tender details include three 60,000 ton consignments for each of the ports of Jeddah, Yanbu, and Dammam, with arrival periods spanning June 15-30, July 1-15, and July 15-31.

Additionally, a single 55,000 ton consignment is sought for arrival in Jizan between July 15-31. This marks the first wheat tender issued by the GFSA this year, following its previous tender in December 2023 involving a purchase of 1,353,000 tons. The latest tender underscores Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to secure wheat supplies and maintain food security in the country.
