Algeria’s state grains agency, OAIC, has reportedly launched an international tender to procure soft milling wheat from optional origins, as confirmed by European traders on Sunday.
Although the tender specifies a nominal quantity of 50,000 metric tons, Algeria typically acquires a larger volume than initially stated in its tenders.
Interested parties are required to submit price offers for the tender by Tuesday, March 5, with offers expected to remain valid until Wednesday, March 6.
The soft milling wheat is intended for shipment in 2024 during two distinct periods within June: June 1-15 and June 16-30. In the case of sourcing from South America or Australia, the shipment schedule is one month earlier.
Algeria serves as a crucial market for wheat sourced from the European Union, particularly France. However, Russian exporters have been making notable inroads into the Algerian market, demonstrating a robust presence and competitive offerings.
The outcome of this tender will shed light on the evolving dynamics of wheat trade in the region and the strategic sourcing decisions made by Algeria to meet its domestic grain requirements efficiently.
