Turkey Announces Agricultural Support Payments for 2025-2027

Turkey has unveiled a new agricultural production support payment model for the years 2025-2027, as detailed in a presidential decision published in the official gazette. This initiative aims to enhance predictability for farmers and includes key crops such as barley, safflower, sunflower (for oil), wheat, canola, lentils, grain corn, chickpeas, cottonseed, potatoes, onions, soybeans, and forage crops.

The agriculture ministry stated that this three-year support model will be implemented for the first time, providing farmers with basic support as well as assistance in production planning and development. Support amounts will increase based on farmers’ compliance with established plans and regulations.

The basic support rate has been set at 244 lira (approximately $7.16) per decare of land planted, with payments adjusted according to specific crop types, production techniques, water sources, and other factors. A decare is equivalent to about a quarter of an acre.

While the decision outlines the framework for support, no specific figures were provided regarding the total budget or funding for this initiative. Turkish farmers have expressed concerns over rising costs for fertilizers and fuel, exacerbated by the depreciation of the lira, leading to protests over high expenses and low product prices.
