Argentine Oilseed Workers Strike Extended as Delays Hit Dozens of Ships

A strike by Argentine oilseed industry unions has been extended for another day, disrupting operations at major agricultural hubs across the country. The strike, initiated by the SOEA and the Federation of Oilseed Industry Workers, began on Tuesday in response to demands for wage increases that surpass the country’s inflation rate.

The unions decided to prolong the strike due to what they described as the “indifference of the companies.” As a result, the number of ships experiencing loading delays due to the strike has increased to 36, according to the CAPYM ports chamber.

Argentina is a significant exporter of processed soybeans, and the revenue generated from these exports is crucial for the country’s central bank. Despite a slowdown in the inflation rate since President Javier Milei took office in December, the inflation rate for the first half of the year still reached 79%, according to official figures.
