First Nation Group in Yukon Calls for Change in Victoria Gold Management

A First Nation group in Yukon has urged the government to take action to remove the management of Victoria Gold Corp, citing the company’s failure to address environmental damage caused by its Eagle Gold mine. The mine is located on land belonging to the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun First Nation (FNNND).

Concerns escalated in June when Victoria Gold halted operations due to an operational failure that resulted in cyanide contamination at the site. FNNND Chief Dawna Hope stated, “The reality is that Victoria Gold cannot rectify the environmental damage caused by this event,” emphasizing the company’s failure to follow remediation directives from the Yukon government.
